The Apartment, New York, Monday

At her core, Isabelle didn't much identify as American. If anything, she was a New Yorker, but a nationality? She didn't really have one. She was a Shadowhunter, first and foremost. And they had their own holidays and traditions. They didn't tend to get too tangled up in the traditions of wherever they were stationed. No matter if they lived there their entire lives – they were always set apart, somehow. It was a Shadow World thing.

But still, Isabelle was looking forward to some fireworks tonight, later. Something special and pretty. It might not have been her holiday, but she could still enjoy certain parts of it. Besides, it seemed like a good reward for the hard work she'd gotten through today by cleaning the apartment!

Which was to say, cleaning two closets in the bedroom, which she was finishing up now. She could do more cleaning tomorrow. If nothing more interesting popped up, and if she remembered.

Flick tutted her and shook his head. "Haven't I given you enough of those in my lifetime, dearest?"

She cocked an eyebrow at him. "If that's what you think, we're going to have a problem, sweetheart," she replied. "If you think you're done with complimenting me while you're intending to spend the rest of your life with me, we might as well not get married at all."

"Is that what I have to do in order to marry you?" Flick asked, tapping his chin and smirking. "That might be a deal breaker, baby."

"Then we're not getting married," Isabelle replied.

Oh so seriously. Really.

[flickofthewrist]

"I'll just find another pretty Shadowhunter to marry instead," Flick said, reaching over and rubbing his thumbs against her shoulders.

[seveninchmotto]

"You won't find one as pretty as me," she said, shaking her head slowly. "Well, Jace comes pretty close. But he's taken, so."

[flickofthewrist]

"I bet I could woo him," he said, pulling her closer and giving her shoulder a kiss. "I'm very charming."

[seveninchmotto]

"He's hard to charm." Honestly, Isabelle hadn't been sure it'd ever happen before Clary showed up. Not even with that mundie girl he'd hung out with at school. "You should stick to me."

[flickofthewrist]

"Should I?" Flick asked, humming low in his throat. "But you're going to make me compliment you all the time and that's so hard."

No, it wasn't.

"It's not," she murmured, watching him. Her hands slid lower, ending up on his hips. "I believe in you, Jon. You're intelligent and braver than anyone I know. Compliments are a piece of cake for you."

[flickofthewrist]

Flick leaned closer, lips just brushing hers and then he grinned. "Maybe later I'll compliment you. Maybe later."

Isabelle's tongue flicked out and licked his bottom lip.

"Why later? You and your compliments both have been away for ages, and sorely missed."

[flickofthewrist]

"Because I want my compliments to surprise you," he told her and gave her a quick peck. "You're expecting them now and I don't want that."

"What's wrong with expecting them?"

She gave his lip a quick bite.

"You could give me one now and still surprise me later."

[flickofthewrist]

"You're beautiful," he murmured and leaned up to kiss her forehead, "and I have missed you immensely."

He kissed her temple.

"How was that?"

[seveninchmotto]

"That was good." She sighed, and nuzzled his cheek. "I've missed you too. You should kiss my forehead again."

[flickofthewrist]

"Should I?" He leaned up and pressed a kiss against her forehead, nuzzling gently as he pulled away. "Good?"

[seveninchmotto]

"Good."

She nodded, but the movement was slow and slight.

"Ready to go get dinner?"

[flickofthewrist]

"I am," he said, stepping back and offering her his arm. "Let's go before I start eating the furniture."

[seveninchmotto]

Isabelle took his arm. "Yes. We both know the only non-food thing you should be eating here is me."

[flickofthewrist]

"Later, later," he said, already walking them to the door. "Probably multiple times tonight."

[seveninchmotto]

"Ooh, good." She might've insisted on something right now, but she knew he was starving, and she wasn't far from being hungry either, so she just let him lead her. "See? That's dessert settled right there."

[flickofthewrist]

"Indeed," he said, holding the door open and letting her step out. "I still might want cheesecake though. Can we have cheesecake and you together?"

Isabelle snickered and stepped past him, stealing a quick peck against his cheek as she did. "How would that work, baby? I'm intrigued."

"I am shocked that you've never combined food and sex," he said as they exited and headed out. "I would have thought you would be well versed in that sort of thing."
