The Apartment, New York, Monday

At her core, Isabelle didn't much identify as American. If anything, she was a New Yorker, but a nationality? She didn't really have one. She was a Shadowhunter, first and foremost. And they had their own holidays and traditions. They didn't tend to get too tangled up in the traditions of wherever they were stationed. No matter if they lived there their entire lives – they were always set apart, somehow. It was a Shadow World thing.

But still, Isabelle was looking forward to some fireworks tonight, later. Something special and pretty. It might not have been her holiday, but she could still enjoy certain parts of it. Besides, it seemed like a good reward for the hard work she'd gotten through today by cleaning the apartment!

Which was to say, cleaning two closets in the bedroom, which she was finishing up now. She could do more cleaning tomorrow. If nothing more interesting popped up, and if she remembered.

"I wasn't all mad," Isabelle pointed out, shaking her head, even as she gave his hand a squeeze. "I was worried, if anything."

"Worried about what?" he asked, rubbing his thumb along her hand and squeezing back.

"About getting stuck in a game," she admitted, shrugging a shoulder. "We only have a short while together. I don't want to lose any of that to getting caught up in some sillyness that goes wrong."

And yes, she was fully thinking she was likely to be the cause of the wrongness.

"I was never going to let it get that far," Flick promised and gave her hand another squeeze. "I just wanted a kiss."

"Please, there was no guarantee of that," Isabelle teased softly. "We're unpredictable. It's one of our best qualities."

[flickofthewrist]

"I wouldn't let it go that far," he promised and smiled. "I knew how far I'd go and I was going to stop as soon as it started going pear shaped."

"Okay." She gave his hand another squeeze. It was a long one. "You're a good puppy."

[flickofthewrist]

He smiled and sat back, pleased. "Thank you. You're a good girlfriend."

"I know."

She didn't have a modest bone in her body. Also, that was when the waitress came back with their order.

"Oooh, food!"

Flick let go of her hand and laughed, watching as their food appeared. He nodded at the waitress and waited for her to step away before he reached for his drink.

"And I thought I was hungry."

"Well, you don't have a monopoly on hunger," Isabelle told him, picking up a fry or two. "A Shadowhunter needs her strength."

[flickofthewrist]

"I just have a monopoly on your heart," Flick said, knowing full well how cheesy that sounded. He didn't care.

[seveninchmotto]

"True," Isabelle replied, with a laugh. "Kind of irrelevant to the discussion at hand, but true."

[flickofthewrist]

Flick shrugged, not caring about getting off on a tangent. "But, you admit that it's true and that's all that matters."

Isabelle shrugged. "You have a monopoly on a lot of my things."

[flickofthewrist]

"You're very lucky I'm not more possessive of you than I already am," he said, smiling across the table at her.e "I wouldn't be letting anyone around you."

"Oh, baby," Isabelle replied, shaking her head. "Until you've staked a claim on me by very publicly threatening violence on strangers ––" You know, like she had. "–– we can only barely call you possessive."

[flickofthewrist]

"Would you like me to do that right here and now?" Flick asked casually.

Isabelle's lips curved into a wicked smirk.

"Would you dare?"

Hey, some of the clientele at Taki's could look a little shady!

[flickofthewrist]

Flick glanced around and smirked at the crowd and then back at her. "I would absolutely dare."

"Then maybe you should."

Hey, she wasn't easily embarassed. See above re: how she'd already done it herself, before.

"Hmm." Flick looked around and picked up his knife, turning it over between his fingers. "Any of these people exes or former one night stands?"

Isabelle took a look around.

Then she shrugged. "Not that I can remember." She nodded towards a corner booth. "I think I maybe danced with that guy at a party once?"

[flickofthewrist]

"Last question before I do this," he said, leaning forward and smiling. "Am I gonna get tossed out by the bouncer or anything like that?"

"I don't think so." Well, as long as he didn't get into a physical altercation with anyone, and why would he? Other than that, she thought he was covered by the staff being well aware that he was with her. "Although it can lead to me dragging you back home earlier than expected."
