Room 301, Tuesday After Classes

Things at the Institute had gotten a little more interesting again a few days agao. This owed mostly to Jace dragging a mundie girl back there after she'd been attacked by a demon. The very same girl who'd almost gotten him injured back at Pandemonium, no less. And now she'd been out cold in the Institute's infirmary for almost three days. It wasn't really a situation that needed Isabelle's presence, but she couldn't really stay away, either. So, even though she'd only arrived back on the island this morning, she was already packing for a portal back, after her classes.

The portal wouldn't even be picking her up too soon. She just had a lot of choices to make about what clothes to pack to take with her, since there was no telling whether she'd be back before her classes again next week.

Flick had been on his way off island to meet up with Joi when he decided to stop by Isabelle's room. He wasn't sure if she'd already left but there was no harm in checking.

When he saw the door open, he leaned a shoulder against it and watched her pack before saying anything.

"Hey." Yep, good enough greeting.

About what she tended to lead with, too. She looked up and smiled at him.

"Hey." See? "I wasn't sure I'd manage to catch even a glimpse of you."

"Stopped by on a whim. I thought you'd be gone by now," Flick told her, shrugging. "Figured I'd check on my way out."

"Oh?" Isabelle asked, as she folded up a skirt, then stepped away from her bag for the moment. "Where are you headed?"

"Meet up with Joi," he said, shrugging. "Told her I'd go shopping to help her get some stuff for her kids and some clothes for her. And me, maybe."

"Buy something that looks nice."

For him, obviously. Although she supposed Joi should look nice as well.

"Eh, we'll see," Flick said, shrugging his shoulders. "It's really just something to do. Get my mind off some things. I don't really like shopping for myself all that much."

"Freak." Not really. It was more a joke on how much she liked shopping than anything else. She moved across the room, closer to him. "Weirdo."

"Gee, thanks," Flick told her, shaking his head. He stayed where he was. "Joi can shop and I'll hold the bags and be the dutiful whatever I am."

"The dutiful bag boy, obviously," Isabelle said. Her hands went on his shoulders as soon as she was close enough for that. "It's an important job."

"Just how I want to spend my day today," he said, smiling slightly at her. "Whoohoo."

"Could be worse," she told him lightly, giving his shoulders a little rub. "You could be on your way to New York to wach over some random mundie who got too close to a demon."

"You're going back to babysit?" Flick asked, raising his eyebrows. "Really?"

Isabelle wrinkled her nose. "Only four people at the Institute right now," she reminded him. "We have to take shifts."

[flickofthewrist]

"Sounds thrilling," Flick said even if it really did not. He smirked a bit. "Well, I'm sure you'll have fun with that in your 'aggressively disdainful of mundanes' way."

"She's been passed out cold for almost three days," she sighed. "There is no fun to be derived from that."

Yes, she sounded like she was offended. By the lack of fun.

She was a terrible person.

"Sorry," Flick said quietly. "Maybe you'll be able to have fun in other ways?"

"I'm pretty good at making my own fun," she admitted with a shrug, before she leaned in for a little peck of a kiss. "Just not while I have to watch some dumb mundane."

[flickofthewrist]

"You said it was a shift thing so after yours is done, you can go have fun," Flick told her, not thinking too hard on what kind of fun she liked to have. "Won't last forever."

Hey, some of it was perfectly innocent fun, even by his standards. Like shopping.

"No, it won't," she agreed with another little kiss. "Besides. Either she'll wake up soon, or she'll fade away. Demon venom doesn't mess around."

"Kind of weird to think I came pretty close to something like that a few months ago," he told her. "I hope she'll be okay. No one needs to die."

Isabelle knew it would make her sound heartless to say she honestly didn't care either way, just as long as the girl made a move in either direction sometime soon. So, she didn't say it.

"Different kind of demon," she said. "The kind that attacked you doesn't have venom in the first place. Thankfully."

"Oh." He nodded. "Well, I still hope she'll be okay. I know it's not fun for you, though. Sorry. Wish there was more I could do than just give you words that won't really do anything."

"Kiss me, mundie."

It wouldn't help with watching over Clary, but she wanted it anyway.

Flick almost asked her what the magic word was but refrained. Instead, he leaned forward and kissed her. Lightly for the moment, soft and gentle, but affectionate and warm.
