The Apartment, New York, Friday

Since the half-move to Alicante back in August, Isabelle hadn't spent a whole ton of time in New York. Sure, she was at the Institute a lot, helping her mother and using the training rooms with her brothers and Clary, but as the months had rolled on she'd found herself thinking of Alicante more and more as home. Even with the unease of sharing a house with her father.

Guess there was something to be said for being somewhere where everyone was like her. She didn't feel like she was the same as Idris-born Shadowhunters, not entirely, but still. Itwas the same culture she'd lived in within the Institute walls.

And Idris was where Flick was, most of the time. It was a pretty big motivator to stick around, all on its own.

But New Year's belonged to New York. New Year's belonged to the city and the place that was going to become home once more after Flick's Ascension. So she was already here, in anticipation of the holiday. Even if right now, she was sitting by one of the big windows in the living room, with a packet of last night's takeout. It counted as anticipation. And appreciation of New York.

Her father's house in Alicante didn't have this view, and Alicante didn't have takeout.

"Sure, it's a Friday," Isabelle replied as she took the couple of steps over to him – takeaway (or whatever was left of it) still in hand. "But I don't know if that means any extra busy. Especially if I chose Taki's."

"I should get a kiss hello before you decide to order food," he told her, beckoning her closer. "I took a shower and everything."

"Oh, so now you're bossy and hygienic?"

She was teasing. Which did not stop her from crowding his personal space and winding her free arm around his neck before leaning in for a kiss.

Okay, it was a peck more than a kiss. Because she was a tease.

"What, do yo have a monopoly on being bossy?" Flick asked, leaning in to steal a kiss of his own before pulling back. "I can't be a bossy clean person every once in a while?"

Isabelle shook her head, and the tilt of her smirk said she was about to be mischievous. "I prefer you bossy and dirty."

Obviously she wasn't talking about the state of his hygiene anymore.

"Well, I can always go and roll around in the dirty New York streets," he murmured giving her a louder, smacking kiss before pulling back. "You should order us something from Taki's. If I'm gonna make it till midnight, I'll need sustenance, woman."

"Who says you have to make it till midnight?" Isabelle aske with a laugh, snagging one more quick kiss of her own before beginning to pull away. Her phone was... around here, somewhere. "Do you have a craving for anything in particular?"

"I just need food," he told her, rubbing his stomach. "A lot of food. You know what they serve us there and it's not enough for a growing boy like me."

"Aww, does it feel like they're starving you, baby?" she teased him, setting her leftovers aside to grab her phone. "Well, I can't have that."

"Feel nothing, they are starving us," Flick told her, reaching to smack her ass for that bit of teasing. "I'm skin and bones."

"You're all bones and muscle, baby, you're not fooling me," Isabelle told him, laughing at the smack. She reached out to tap him on the nose with her free hand as she brought the phone to her ear. "Come on."

"That doesn't mean I'm not hungry," Flick told her with a snicker. "I'm starving and I want real food. Salt, sweet, heavy stuff. I don't want anymore damn soupy broth or whatever it is they serve us there."

"No broth, got it," Isabelle replied, amused. "Now shush."

Was it really necessary to press a finger to his lips while someone from Taki's picked up, and she could go about her ordering? Probably not, but she was doing it for fun, anyway.

If she was going to press a finger to his lips, he was going to lick that finger and smile against her skin.

Her fault for touching him so nicely.

That didn't do much to her phone call – apart from a snicker that appeared completely random to the person at the other end of the line. She still went about her ordering with her usual grace, getting them burgers and fries and shakes galore.

Only the best for her fiancé.

Once the call was done, she put the phone away and tapped him on the chin. "Naughty."

"Naughty?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and reaching out to try and pull her closer. "For giving my future wife a kiss on the finger? I can't help it when it's you and you're so close."

She didn't resist. He was here, and just his presence made the apartment feel more like home than her father's place in Alicante had ever felt.

It was entirely possible 'home' wasn't really a place.

"It's still naughty, Jon."

"Oh, I'm so sorry," he told her, frowning at her and clasping his fingers together at the small of her back. "Would you like me to be well behaved and so good for you tonight?"

"Maybe," she replied, looping her arms around his neck, and tilting her head as she smiled at him. "Though naughtiness has its perks too, I guess."

"No naughtiness until I get some food," he quipped, leaning forward and kissing her forehead. "I don't want a delivery person to show up when we're mid doing something either. Stopping is just plain terrible."

"I wasn't angling for naughtiness."

Was that ever actually true? She closed her eyes and inhaled the smell of him. That, that was home.

"You'll get your food, baby."

"You're such a good fiance," he murmured, leaning forward and pecking her lips. "What have you been up to since I last saw you?"

"Well, I helped take down the Christmas decorations at the Institute."

You know. All... three of them. Her eyes opened again.

"Sparred with Jace and Clary for a while, too."

"You decorated the Institute?" Flick asked, surprised. "I didn't think your parents were really...Christmas-y."

"Clary's influence, for the most part," she replied, shrugging. "There wasn't a lot."
