Isabelle was in her element. Not only was her boyfriend home – and not just visiting for the day but on actual break – but she was also cooking for him. That's right, their kitchen was a happy mess of various kinds of ingredients and pots and pans with ––

With, well, something cooking in them. It was honestly hard to tell what it was by the smell. Or the ingredients strewn about the counters. Or the way it looked, even. Maybe... maybe it was some kind of stew?

Whatever it was, Isabelle looked happy to be making it.

It made Isabelle feel better than she could've explained in words when he did that. It was safety and comfort and something more playful all rolled into one.

"And what if you don't get it? Because it doesn't look like you're getting it right now."

She was still cooking, after all.

"I could get down on my knees," he mumbled, still clinging to her tightly. "I bet that would get your attention but it'd be my attention you'd want then."

She laughed. The threw-her-head-back, a little surprised, absolutely delighted kind of laugh. "But it would get my attention," she agreed, glancing back at him and raising an eyebrow. "You're not wrong."

[flickofthewrist]

"But, I don't think I should do that," he said, shaking his head and then tucking his face against her neck. "It might take your attention too far away from the food. Your meal would be ruined."

Isabelle sighed like that was oh so disappointing. It wasn't. "Well, now my attention is weakening again.."

[flickofthewrist]

"I could just go sit on the couch and watch football," he pointed out from his comfortable spot against her neck. "Let you cook in peace."

"You don't look like you're about to do that," she retorted. "Anyway, the food's almost done."

How could she tell? Maybe it was magic.

[flickofthewrist]

"And what if I did do that?" he asked even if he wasn't moving just yet. "Would you be mad?"

"I'd be disappointed." Maybe. It was hard to tell. "I'd also consider it a dumb move. Since like I just said, the food's almost done. You'd just have to come back sooner rather than later."

[flickofthewrist]

"Fine, then I'm just gonna stay like this," he said, readjusting his arms around her and sighing against her neck. "I'm good right here for awhile."

The sigh made her shiver. Just a little, but maybe he noticed, plastered against her as he was.

"Good. This will only take a moment, but I'd hate for you to be uncomfortable."

[flickofthewrist]

"Oh, I'm never uncomfortable when I'm around you," Flick reassured her with another sigh. "Just keep working. I'll be fine right here."

Isabelle smiled. And she kept working. There were a few more ingredients to add at the end. Very precise work, if you went by the way she handled it.

At the end of it, she gave it a taste. (And the Angel knew what she actually tasted.) "It's done. Perfect."

Flick picked his head up off her shoulder and peered towards the stew, giving it a sniff. It didn't smell bad but he knew his sense of smell might have been off considering where he'd been the last long while.

"So, we can eat now?"

"Yes." She nodded. "Do you want to set the table? I'll get the wine."

Yes, there was wine. It was a celebration!

That meant he had to pull away and he sighed at having to do that. He still kissed her neck a few times before letting her go and moving around the kitchen to retrieve their plates and silverware.

He went out to their table and set those first before coming back and grabbing the wine and two goblets.

And when he was grabbing for the wine, she stole a quick kiss. She was so sneaky like that. So sneaky.

Then she went to get a ladle for the stew, before grabbing the pot so she could carry it to the table.

[flickofthewrist]

"You made a lot," Flick said, moving around and pouring each goblet with a healthy dose of wine before putting the bottle in the middle of the table. Then, he pulled her chair out and waited for her to get the meal settled before taking her seat.

Isabelle smirked at him. "Such a gentleman," she said, almost purring the words, as she took her seat. "And, yes. Told you I was going to stuff you full, didn't I?"

[flickofthewrist]

"You did," Flick murmured, dropping a kiss on top of her head before taking his seat across from her. "I think you would have scowled at me if I'd forgotten to do that."

"Oh, I don't know, I'm pretty forgiving." Well, sometimes. But she was smiling at him over the table as she gestured towards the stew. "You first, Jon."

[flickofthewrist]

"All right," Flick said, reaching for the pot and scooping himself a hearty helping of the stew. He didn't really know what he was seeing within the stew but one thing he could say? There were spices in there and he'd missed spices.

"Smells good," he said and actually meant that.

Had Isabelle not been protected by her confidence-bordering-on-delusion about her cooking, she might've been suspicious of that statement. As things were, however, she just smiled that much wider.

"Thank you," she said, and preened as she wnet to get some stew on her own plate. "I found the recipe online. It's amazing what you can find on there."

[flickofthewrist]

"The internet will give you just about everything," Flick said, dipping his spoon in and taking a hearty bite of the stew.

Now, the stew was unlike anything he'd ever eaten before. It wasn't bad by any means and it was spicy but he couldn't tell what he was tasting. He just knew it tasted not too bad at all.

"Nice job, Iz," he said and took several more bites before taking a breath. "God, that's good."

Okay, perhaps there were other, more pressing reasons. But she was beaming; her smile couldn't have been much brighter than it was right now.

"See?" she replied. "Only the best for you, baby."

Yeah, he was back to baby status. Not the food.
